It is “splitted” by a physical pier at the center where these days is completely rebuilded for the interests of the port. Once again we have been there with a sailing yacht from our favorite team in grecce, yachtsailing.gr.

Amorgos Sailing 2015

Amorgos an other beautiful Cycladic island! It took it’s name from a plant called  “Amorgis” a flax variety. Located at the east side of Cycladic complex and it is about 136 miles away from peiraeus. A coastline of 126kilometers and an area of 121 square kilometers are waiting for you to explore step by step! You will also find to natural ports Katapola and Aigiali with the first to be the main one and the most protected from weather conditions.   Decide the way you want to visit this island and you will  be amazed. Ferry from peiraeus or your own boat?
It is a good question where we can answer you! If you go with ferry, you will need a place to stay overnight and also find a way to move around the island. If you do not have any friends there you will need a hotel or rental room. If you also want to move around you can choose between, taxi, local transportations or car/bike rentals. Except the money you will need for all of these, count that you will get tired soon. If you go with your own boat (rental or your own) you will have a place to stay, cook and do whatever you want and the most important! You can go wherever you want around the island and visit places that are accessible only from sea. Of course you will need to find other way to visit some sightseens but the cost is too small to be afraid of. Count the which way is better for you and if you finally decide about your own boat, ask yachtsailing.gr about more!

See for yourself at Pinterest collection:

Follow Yachtsailing Greece’s board Amorgos Cyclades, Greece on Pinterest.

When you finally arrive you will not see a “huge” town or something very big. Amorgos is divided into small villages and settlements. Your first stop should be Katapola as it is the main port as we said and the most “crowded” let’s say point of island and the one where you can find the most things to buy.
We moored our boat after 13 hours of sailing adventures at the Aegean we moored out boat at the port we said above and we have been out for a walk to calm down and also find a place for lunch!  We visited Diosmarimi as locals suggested us and we were very satisfied with the dishes we taste and also with the prices!

http://bit.ly/1JzX14f

After lunch we have been for a walk to the main road of the port an then we decided to visit “Chora” of Amorgos. It was something more than beautiful! A classic Cycladic city full of white and blue classic buildings! We visited “Gavras tower” a really interesting place to visit!
Based on Venetian architecture of 16th century.  You will also find many interesting churches while exploring amorgos. They are all unique with a history written for them!  Ask locals and you will understand more!  Other interesting places.  Katapola and  Aigiali has also many interesting places to explore but do not miss at “Kato Meria” the “Acropolis of Amorgos” or “Acropolis of Arkesini”! Maybe the most high altitude of the island make it ideal for the ancient years to be the most important spot of the island due to the view it gives you generously to the Aegean sea.

acropolis of amorgos

We have been exploring th island for many hours by local transportation but there is nothing better than exploring with your boat. So the next day we decided to leave the ground of Amorgos and explore the sea around the island! We visited many beaches and they were all amazing. From where to start ?  Maybe “Agia Anna” was one from the best choises! Crystal clear waters with golden sand mixed with pebbles are really amazing. There is also a church near with the same name! About 3 miles away from “Chora”.  Not a very big beach but you will bea amazed with the landscape! Our next stop is Agios pavlos. Amagical beach with white sand and crystal clear blue waters!  We believe that you already have been to Aigiali and except walking you have been visited the amazing beach! It is one of the biggest and well known beaches in amorgos and it is really magical! Blue transparent waters with amazing sang make this beach ideal for relaxing for sunbathing under the greek hot sun! It is an organized beach with many interesting points near like café’s, taverns and bars an it is not very crowded!

http://bit.ly/1O5xW9e (Αgia Anna)
Near there there is also Nevrosos beach where you will find a pebbled coast at the one side of an amazing bay. Ideal to relax with friends during the night and enjoy the sky full of stars!
Maltezi-Katapola, a beach reached only from water. You are lucky if you have your own boat but if not you do not have to worry because there is a sea taxi only for this beach! Visit Katapola and the side pier of the port and you will find many boats where every 30 minutes leave for this destination! There is a small fee you pay during your way to this amazing bay.

We hope you took a taste about what to expect from the beaches from Amorgos. They are all one by one unique and the only sure thing is that you want many time to explore them all. Sure there are many more we did not reach because we ran out of time but we hope next time to visit more.

We forget to tell you that near the port there are stands with some leaflets showing a map and interesting points of Amorgos! It is a blue folded leaflet shared every morning at many spots of Amorgos and if you are lucky and they do not run out just some minutes after they fill the stand you will take one.

Are you interested of delicious tastes when you get hungry during your trip? Except Diosmarimi we already told you before some lines, there are many other places you must visit! If you are at Aigiali, visit “Amorgis” one of the most classic and well known restaurants of Amorgos! Traditional Greek food and delicacies from some of the experts of the kind!
Prices per person  10-15€ with very good service! Also “Capetan Dimos” is an other traditional Greek food tavern you must meet! Fresh fish and seafood for all of you in great prices!  Do you know “Le grand Bleu” movie filmed on Ios island? There is a restaurant with the same name at Amorgos with an amazing classic Cycladic building!

All these are just some words for Amorgos. The only way to understand how amazing this island is, is to visit it! Decide when, how and who will be with you and schedule your trip.
It is a life experience like every island in Cyclades. Believe us it worth it to visit Amorgos and not only! We hope that our information are helpful for you and you will find these places as interesting as we did!

Kithira beautiful sailing cruise

After our trip at Spetses (add link here) we decided to visit  Kithira! Also called “Cirigo”  at ancient years! It is located at the southeast point of Peloponnese  and its area is about 279 square kilometers. It is about 7 hours away from Athens and the linearity is really interesting while cruising the saronic!

http://bit.ly/1O0z1Pk

You can also visit the island by ferry but you may do not have the required freedom to explore the island! The main port of Kythira is “Diakofti” where is an ideal place to moor your boat. This port is well protected from wind of all directions and generally from all weather conditions. When this port was built, also an airport was also built together. As you understand you can reach Kithira also by plane!
So,  it is one of the few islands where you can visit it with all transports! Decide which one fits you and your friends better and schedule when!

Unfortunatelly we did not have enough time for more to visit, maybe next time!

http://bit.ly/1QnwY6h

Are you hungry? Do not say no after all these kilometers you may already walked for all these sightseens! Except your boat galley there are some very interesting rerstaurants and taverns to visit with traditional and very delicious dishes waiting for you!  We are sure that you will love the cuisine of this island!

Ask for the special dish of the day! We keep our favorite for the end.   “Manolis” at  “Diakofti” Beach at the eastern side of Kithira. You will take a seat on golden sand under a beautiful tree shade just some steps away from the waves of the crystal clear waters of the area. A really magical place Where you will find fresh fish and dishes like home!

http://bit.ly/1Q0DuPy

If you visit the island with ferry or airplane you may need a place to stay overnight.

And after a research we found Pelagia Aphrodite hotel at “Aghia Pelagia”. Rooms with beautiful view at sea and very good services! Generally a beautiful place to stay, with very good price!  There are many other Hotels too choose from but this gained our interests more than others!

At the end of the day you may need to go for a drink! You will find many bars around the island for all ages and tastes to visit with your friends and not only. We visited “Il mercato” a beautiful cocktail bar for all ages where you will find unique cocktails and very tasty drinks.

Ios sailing 2015

Ios sailing 2016

Ios, the island of dreams! One of the most beautiful islands of Cyclades ideal for all ages!
An amazing destination with traditional housings,  amazing beaches, amazing cuisine and not only! You must explore Ios and all of its interesting points your self! Also called “Nios” from locals and Its area is about 109 square kilometers with a population over 2000 people!
This time we visited Ios with a charter boat from Kalamaki after an amazing trip to Poros at Saronic Gulf, Kimolos and Sikinos! It was a long sailing trip but full of experiences we would love to share with you!  You can also reach Ios with ferry from Peiraeus or Rafina which first visits other Cycladic islands, like a small tour!

Ios island sailing tour

Ios

While cruising Aegean reaching Ios we were all amazed, we read about this island many times for many interesting points and they were all true! When you reach the port you may see something like a small “village” but this is just the beginning! It is just the enterance of Ios! If you need to buy some stuff you are missing you will find whatever you may just a few steps away!

Church at the top

After mooring our boat at the port and doing all the required actions in order to stay there without any problem (Just to notify port police that this boat is ours in order to “charge us” for the mooring) we stared looking for interesting things to do! We went out for some shopping and we began at 18:00 with a small tour up to “Chora” of Ios, just 2 kilometers away from our boat which is the “city” let’s say of the island. A really amazing place, full of white and blue, a classic Cycladic city where can travel you to the past!  Slated roads and small churches like the old years are there to show you an interesting part of the island history!  Do not miss to visit the church of “Panagia Gremiotissa” at the highest point of Chora! It is a really amazing stop! Since the tour took us many hours exploring chora, we started getting hungry and we stopped at “The mills”. A really amazing and original Greek restaurant with a long history through the years!  Located at “Mills” square a very well photoshooted place at Ios since 1969! Try to ask about the special dish of the day! It is always a traditional greek taste that worth it to taste!

We left “The Mills” at about  23:00 and in our way back to our boat we noticed that Chora was transformed to an amazing Nightlife destination!  We started thinking of a drink and we finally visited “Astra Coctail Bar”!  Amazing music vibes that make you feel wonderful and some very tasteful cocktails made us to feel like Greeks and stay there up to sunrise! We did it the Greek way!

After this interesting night we have been onboard again and after some hours of sleep and recharging our batteries we left the port for other destinations of Ios!  We anchored at “Kolitsani bay” for a dive but we left after some minutes as the beach near was for well known for nudism! We did not know about that and we felt a little bit uncomfortable!

We headed “Milopotas”  which beach is the most famous in Ios. We anchored far from the coast and we met the beach with the dinghy.  There is a fully equipped beach (about 2 kilometers long!) with umbrellas, sunbeds and beach bars where you can relax and enjoy the sun! You will also find all kinds of water sports like surf, wind surf, wake surf, jet ski, diving and many others! Try diving the sea bottom with complete equipment with professionals near you!  You will also find some extras to rend like underwater camera! If you do not have one it worth it for some underwater photos!

http://bit.ly/1Q0zOgK

After some hours spending there we had also some conversations with locals and they told us about beaches that are reachable only from water!  We found these information very interesting and we started exploring these places!  We headed first “Pepa”  where is a place near an isolated secret beach, we did not dive there we just used it for a point in our way! After  about 2 miles we saw on our left a bay “deep” between rocks, as they told us!  We anchored in a safe distance, from the rocks in order to avoid any damages and we used dinghy to go up to the coast.  Crystal clear waters, out of wind! A special location to relax and enjoy the sun out of rushy beaches!

We spent many hours there and finally we decided to leave the area and sail to other well known locations and not to search for other secret locations. There are too many things to do at this island that you can not decide from where to start!

http://bit.ly/1L0Rppo

Finally our next destination was “Maganari” at the southerst point of Ios, a unique place with strange geographical relief! The coast was like a lace with small hills near where classic Cycladic buildings use it as their base! A really amazing view!  We stayed for the night onboard and next day morning we have been for a walk! We asked locals for interesting sightseens there and they told us about a Byzantine monastery of “Aghios Ioannis” buided at about 17th aion.  We also heared that a film was shot there called “Le Grand Blue” and we were interested to watch it! We found a souvenir shop, and except all other small gifts we bought, we found the film in a DVD! . On our way back we decided to stay at the amazing golden sand beach and then go back to boat.

We were feeling exhausted because of the hot weather and all activities we done and it was the perfect time to watch the movie we bought before!  Interesting plot with a duration something more than 2 hours. We combined it with some snacks and drinks and after all that we were ready to sleep!

The next day morning, we started sailing the rest of ios we left and it was very interesting! We visited “Psathi” and “Aghia Theodoti” , amazing places like small villages, silent places where the locals will make you feel like home, like one of them!  We enjoyed every minute we were there and we did not want to leave but unfortunately we had.  It was the last night in Ios and we hope to go back soon for more adventures! We fall in love with this island and we are sure that when you visit it you will understand us completely!

http://bit.ly/1L0RUzS

If you do not visit Ios with your own boat, do not forget to ask about “Sea taxi” in order to visit all the interesting sightseens from sea! It worth it!

If we forget to tell you something is because we do not know from where to start writing. Ask as for whatever you want and we are sure that from our personal experience that we will help you!
